27 November – 2 December, curators from Chile and Colombia
In November-December 2015 a group of curators from the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Switzerland visited Chile and Colombia during the Orientation trip organized by the Mondriaan Fund.
As follow-up of the trip a group of curators from both countries will visit the Netherlands during the time of The Amsterdam Art Weekend. The group will visit institutions and meet art professionals in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag and Eindhoven.
Freelance curator from Chile
Curator born in Iquique in the north of Chile. He studied journalism and holds an MA in Art History. He has been coordinator and agent of various contemporary art projects from northern Chile, promoting local artistic practices in relation to Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Peru. Furthermore Rodolfo Andaur has taken part in curatorial teams that focus on critical analysis and reflection about contemporary art in Chile: Chile Triennial (2009) Transcripcion_Local (2010-11) Economía de Sitio (2013) and #DepresionesIntermedias (2015) Those exhibitions produced knowledge through the medium of contemporary art and also contributed to the dissemination of contemporary Chilean art on an international level. With this background was prized by FNDR for his contribution to regional cultural management in 2011. He has also received grants for curatorial residencies at the Gwangju Biennale, South Korea, 2011; N.B.K. Berlin, Germany, 2012; CIMAM-Cisneros Foundation, Río de Janeiro, Brazil, 2013; Sao Paulo Biennial Foundation Workshop, Sao Paulo, Brazil, 2014; and [R.A.T.] Residences Exchange, México City, México, 2015. He is currently part of the academic staff of the Diploma in Critical and Curatorial Studies at the Desarrollo University and the Adolfo Ibáñez University. He also writes about exhibitions and the methodologies of various visual artists’ projects in arteMANIFIESTO, Lima, Perú; and a-Desk, Barcelona, Spain.
Maria Belén Saez de Ibarra Sanchez*
Director Museo de Arte de le Universidad di Colombia
M. Belén Sáez de Ibarra (curator) directs the Art Museum of the National University of Colombia where since 2008 she has been developing a policy of commissioning and producing major exhibitions that span trans-disciplinary processes and the diverse media of international contemporary art. Also directs Auditorio Leon de Greiff and the cultural department at the university.
Curator Arte + Flora
Degree in Fine Arts and Cultural Management, Master in Theory and Aesthetics of Contemporary Art (UAB), and Master in Museum Studies and Critical Theory from the Independent Study Program of the Museum of Contemporary Art Barcelona (PEI-MACBA). She curated the selection of Latin American artists for the Canadian magazine Revue-HB and she was part of the curatorial team of the project led by Beatriz Preciado, Museo Oral de la Revolución at MACBA (2013). Since 2014, she is curator in residence at FLORA ars+natura, a contemporary art space in Bogotá, Colombia , where she participated in the production of exhibitions of artist such as Doris Salcedo, Carlos Garaicoa, Lucia Koch, Max Gómez Canle, Raúl Zurita, among others.
Soledad García Saavedra
Coordinator Centro de Documentación de las Artes Visuales (CEDOC)
Soledad García Saavedra is an art historian and curator (MFA in Curating, Goldsmiths College). Curator-coordinator of the Centre of documentation of Visual Arts at the Cultural Centre La Moneda in Santiago de Chile, where she develops programs encourage the study of archival documents in different formats (digital or physical) through open calls, seminars, workshops and shows. She is editor of books Magic Block, 2015; Essays on Visual Arts. Practices and discourses in the 70s and 80s in Chile, Vol. I –IV, 2011-2015 (only in Spanish); Adam’s Apple of Paz Errazuriz, 2014. She regularly gives workshops and lectures on curating, memory and archives, and is currently lecturer at the Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Santiago de Chile.
Maria M. González
General Director of the Medellín Museum of Modern Art (MAMM)
M.A in Media Studies from The New School, New York, specialist in Cultural Studies and B.A. in Political Science from Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. Worked as Cultural and Media attaché at the Colombian Embassy in Argentina between 2004 and 2008. From 2008 to 2010, advisor to the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and since October 2012, General Director of the Medellín Museum of Modern Art (MAMM).
At MAMM, I am in charge of planning, organizing, staffing, funding and directing the Museum, oversee all levels of the Museum’s operations and departments, run a staff of 30 people, and fundraise and manage an annual budget of 2 million dollars. I have also led the Museum’s expansion –a 9 million dollar-project- with 7200 m2 that host galleries for permanent exhibitions, multipurpose spaces, a theater, areas for services and educational programs, an extended storage area, and a documentation center.
Exhibitions Coordinator at MAC Quinta Normal, Contemporary Art Museum in Santiago
Andrea Pacheco is a Chilean curator who works in Santiago and Madrid. She has been particularly interested in promoting the work of emerging Latin American artists in Europe through alternative spaces such as Artistic Residences like Felipa Manuela, a special program that she created in 2011 in an old apartment in Madrid. Or Just Residence, a residency program that she ran inside the JUSTMAD Art Fair. Since 2013 she is Exhibitions Coordinator at MAC Quinta Normal, Contemporary Art Museum in Santiago and works with focus in young Chilean artists and projects related with territory and community.
Curator NC-Arte, Bogota
Claudia Segura (Barcelona, Spain, 1984). Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities from Pompeu Fabra University (2007), a Master’s Degree in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmiths University, London (2007-2008), first cycle of the Independent Study Program, MACBA, Barcelona (2010). She also obtained an internship in Tate Modern’s Curatorial Department (2008-2009).
She has worked as Programs Coordinator at the Videoart Loop Festival, at the Cultural Department in Foundation “la Caixa”, at ADN Platform and was a Tutor at the Sala d’Art Jove as well as visiting professor at the University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. In a more international level she has worked as the curator of Mardin Biennial in Turkey and she is the curator of NC-arte in Bogotá, Colombia.
Moreover, she has curated and co-curated several projects such as Fifty from Han Nefkens H+F Collection in collectorspace, Istanbul (2014), the cycle: Micro-actions of emergency at Adn Platform, Barcelona (2013-2014), Copy / Paste – Recodifying the gesture at the Instituto Cervantes in London (2013), Conclusion never comes – a reading on the Coleçao desenhos de Madeira, (Teixera de Freitas) at Sala El Broncese for Foro Sur, Cáceres (2013), Past Forward for the Video art Loop Festival, Barcelona (2010), Like Tears in Rain at the Palacio das Artes in Porto (2010), Shacking Idiosyncrasies in the gallery Hold and Freight, London (2009) and Producing Urban Order at Goldsmiths University, London (2008).She has published in several catalogues as well as currently writes for specialized art magazines. She has done the editorial coordination of Florae, the first magazine of Flora ars+natura in Bogotá, and she is one of the members of the research collective: de vuelta y vuelta and founder of the group: para abrir boca.
