Symposium Unvealing Institutional Models in Chile and Colombia

orientation trip orientation trip

The Mondriaan Fund, in close collaboration with Stedelijk Museum, is proud to present the symposium Unvealing Institutional Models in Chile and Colombia which showcases the work of six directors, curators, and theorists from Chile and Colombia.
They will discuss the shifting landscape of the visual arts in their respective countries or cities, and how this shapes the institutional models with which they are working.

In the past decade the art scene is both Chile and Colombia has experienced a boom with the opening of new art galleries, public and private museums, art fairs, biennials, cultural spaces boosted by artists, collectors and curators, institutions dedicated to visual arts.

Year after year the work of artists, institutions and galleries is recognized internationally and both countries have become interesting emerging art markets. For example, the prestigious publisher Phaidon Press recently published a book entitled ‘Art Cities of the Future: 21st-Century Avant-Gardes’, in which Bogota is highlighted as one of the 12 essential cities worldwide in terms of contemporary art.

Similar art booms have helped transform China and Brazil into global art hubs, so it makes sense to see international curators and dealers booking trips to Chile and Colombia now. New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts and London’s Serpentine Galleries, among others, have all recently sent delegations of curators and patrons to scout art in Chile and Colombia.

From November 27 – December 2 a group of curators from Chile and Colombia will visit the Dutch art scene. These curators are invited as a follow up of the orientation trip organized by the Mondriaan Fund in 2015 to both countries.
